last Day at CCAC!

OMG it's my last day as a student at CCAC. Now I get to be called alumni (I think). Pretty cool I guess. It kinda feels empty since I won't have commencement, though I could come back for it in May, but I dunno if I will.

I start culinary school at AI in...33 days. Wow. And I have no current plan as to how to pay back my student loans, I mean, I can barely clear $100 in my bank for a fortnight (wow that's the second time this week I've used the word 'fortnight') so it's anyone's guess how long it's going to take me to pay back everything I'm going to owe.

I hope everyone is well; we've all been pretty good. Nothing major to speak of, thankfully. I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping and wrapping and Christmas cards go out tomorrow.

So, everything was fine when I went to work this afternoon. But, of course, not to be outdone by parents, my boss called me back to the office for a chat. Oh goodie.

Background: Beth was hired a few weeks ago to replace Tiff in a few months. She is very nice but seems inexperienced and quiet and takes secondary duties (like cleaning and stocking) sometimes over primary duties (customers). And, just because she's so new, she is pretty slow about getting products out, compared to where she should be. I think that proficiency in crew tasks should come first before manager training.

And Tiff asked all of us what we thought of her and how she would do and I said that she was very polite but that she needs more time on crew before she goes into manager training. So, last Friday after I went home, I called back into work and talked to Tiff about it. I just asked why they hired from the outside instead of 'promoting from within' (which I have been told the owner likes to do quite often). And I've anticipated the answer (she's not in school and is available at any moment kinda thing).

So today Tammy called me back to the office and she told me that Tiff told her about my phone call and she started talking about how I was being disrespectful. My favorite line: "To survive in this business, YOU DO NOT QUESTION AUTHORITY. Omigod are you serious! Then she got all, "I encourage everyone to ask questions about anything.....but don't question my authority."

After that, I was really done with the conversation. So I said something about not meaning to 'disrespect her' and I was just curious. If she had been there I would've asked her. Then there was a question about who I would promote if it were up to me, which was just another way of asking if I thought I deserved to be a manager instead of Beth and I said no. And every time I talk to her about anything she always throws around how she's been in foodservice for 30 years or that she is a cancer survivor or something and it's really starting to prey on my nerves.

After that, once she was convinced that I wasn't doing whatever she thought I was, she said that she perceived it wrong and she was 'defending herself' which implies that she feels threatened be me and my college education (she told me that she had no formal training on managing or anything and now that I am in school for this I guess she feels threatened. Right, I want to run someone else's shit-tastic franchise, sure).

Any opinions or comments, please!? I really wasn't trying to be a bitch or anything- I just wanted to know the deal and apparently I'm not allowed to question any decisions made by Tammy because the owner hired her and she is not "the shit."

BTW: I just watched Act 1 if A Very Potter Musical because Jess Ann mentioned it on one of her posts and I've been wondering what all the buttons on Facebook about "Pigfarts" is all about. It is hilarious. Will finish watching tomorrow. Good night!

Okay, it's been a while. I'm still at Dairy Queen/Orange Julius. Today was free smoothie day and I am so glad that they didn't put me on making of the smoothies. I mean, honestly, for $.05 of ink and paper, you are getting a free $5 smoothie so stop bitching! And we also had a visit from some guy; I'm still not quite sure who he is or what he does other than "helps" by standing in the way. And, honestly, the strawberries are not all even and it's not like these are heaping spoonfuls or something; stop bitching about the fucking strawberries. Amber and I were ready to shove the 3oz ladle down his body by way of the nose to try and dislodge the stick up his ass. The people with the coupons from free smoothies seemed to come in groups of multiples of 12 because most of them worked at Macy's and came on break together. So, happy I was on Dairy Queen, and I got an extra 5 hours of pay.

I started my internship at AAA East Central yesterday. It was alright; lots of pain in the ass clients but I guess that is to be expected everywhere. Need 120 more hours by Sept. 1 and I have 4 down so far. Whoo!

I have one more semester of ccac to endure and then I am (hopefully) off to the University of San Francisco! or at least, California.

Oh, and I made the mistake of mixing chocolate espresso with berry smoothie; not a great plan.

Wow, I totally forgot about this site until Ann mentioned it again! And to think that something that took up so much of our time a few short years ago can be so easily forgotten...

Update: For those of you I haven't talked to in the last few months, I have returned from a 7-month internship in Florida about 4 weeks ago. I have to admit, I miss it more than I thought I would or more than I think I should. Atleast down there I had a secure job for a while. I come back and my old job is on a hiring freeze and I'm stuck looking for a new job. =(( I have up in about 6 applications but, those 'now hiring' signs must be a lie because it's been 2-3 weeks and no one has called.

I am back at CCAC (whoop-de-doo). It's odd to go to school now and not have to dress business casual. I have a law class this semester; I read the first chapter of our book and it made my head hurt! It wasn't even anything hard- a brief history of hospitality laws and how to read a case report.

It's odd being home because everything seems alien and familiar at the same time. This feels like the vacation, especially since I'm not working.

I worry about the future and not finding my place in it...like, I'm just going to loaf and stumble through life like the schmucks and dumbass people I so enjoy making fun of. I guess that's sort of a fitting punishment...

These were musings I wrote last Wednesday while my brain was bleeding out of my skull (it's a pretty big feat to write without getting brains all over the paper, let me tell you), so here they are:

"This is such a high school class; freshmen, not even in honors could pass this class without too much difficulty! I can't believe all these people actually pay money to take this class. Today we talked about plagiarism, oooh,...gee, what is that?? I am hoping to CLEP out of English Composition 2. wow, quotes within quotes; let's have a freakin' cow! oooh, now we have a long quote! INDENTED AND EVERYTHING!!! *flaskback* What does 'omit' mean? Woah, the bibliography goes on a separate page!!! Hey, new thought: let's use transitions" (Geyer 1).

The CLEP idea is now gone since it costs $85 and I may not pass it. I also don't feel like going all the way to whereever the hell it was (I never heard of the place) to take it.

Yeah, I did all of my trig on the bus home so I could spend the night practicing for the auditions today. That meant that I had to get uber good in 5 hours. I think I'm okay but my tonguing still sucks. Bob's lucky I'm trying to tongue at all but that's life. I still don't know if I want to audition. There's still time to decline. Dee, Tom, and Sean aren't. I have no freaking idea why Ethan auditioned! There is no higher chair and Bob favors him anyway! (I have HP music for clarinet and the example tracks on the disc sound like it could be Ethan.) Grrrr. What the hell. I know I'll get pushed back but at least if I audition I might not get pushed as far. We'll have to wait and see. I've got to keep telling myself to not speed up!!

Today wasn't that bad. The rest of the day was okay. Mrs. McSwigan will be away for probably the first symester b/c of her new baby so we have Mr. Burrows. Goody goody. Health is with Mrs. Livingston and is full of ppl I don't like. I have lunch with mostly band people. (Jess: It sucks so bad that we don't have the same lunch.) Trig & Adv. Math = ? Yeah whatever. English: I'm still kind of confused. French 4 is combined with French 5 so it'll be interesting to see how Mrs S. will teach us. She said she might do French 4 speaking lesson one day, then give us writing work the next while she does the speaking lesson for French 5. I dunno. When I got home I was so tired for some reason. Maybe it's a symptom for the rest of the year...

It's the first day of school and I really don't want to be up now. I've been up since 5:30 because my alarm has been being mean and not going off so I figured if it didn't go off I'd need a new one and since it did, I'd have half an hour to drag my sorry ass out of bed. Oh My Gosh!!! Our trip was so much fun. We weren't able to go to the museum in Chicago b/c we ended up taking a two and a half hour bus ride from Chicago to South Bend. Paula met us at the airport out there (it was so much more expensive to fly direct so we just flew to Chicago and took the bus) and she drove us around and showed us were some good places were. The next day we went to Shipshewana and got lost but we eventually made it and spent the day shopping. Friday was the Def Leppard concert and we got to the stadium at around 3 and their buses pulled up while we were waiting so I went over to take pics but Vivian Campbell came over and I realized I had two books from their records so I got him to sign the "X" cover but if the cover it right side up, his name is upside down!! I wasn't to nervous, was I? I could barely hold it still! lol. The show was totally awesome!!!! Paula had won Meet & Greet tickets for after the show and I was really nervous all over again! Paula brought them this pie made only in South Bend by this family owned bakery and these little gift bags with a book and a little electronic game in it for the road. We met Rick Allen (the one-armed drummer for those of you who are not familiar with Def Leppard)and he was just so sweet and nice. We each got 3 items signed so I got my "X" booklet, my ticket from the show and (they were all addressed) the "Rock Of Ages" CD (the new one) addressed to my mother (I figured, she brought me all the way here and let me go back instead of her so...) Then we left to beat the traffic getting out after Bryan Adams finished and we met Phil Collen and Rick again and mom got picks with them too. ON Saturday we went up to Paula's parents house on the lake for the day and her father took us around in their boat and it was such a beautiful view. They went there so much they decided to just move there. And then the next day we had to leave and another two and a half hour bus ride and the Chicago airport really needs renovated and more seating. The flight was only an hour so it wasn't too bad. I want to go back to do more in Chicago but i guess that'll have to wait.

Oh my gosh. This week for story time the kiddies made paper flags b/c of the upcoming holiday and father got all up in my face about there only being 10 stars on the flag and them not being in a circle but it's not my freakin' fault that thats how many come in a row on the packet that we have! They're kids and they and their parents don't really care if there are 13 stripes (there are 10 on the ones we had them make) or if there are 50 stars (does he have any idea how long it would take a 3-6 year old to put 50 sticker stars on a piece of 3 by 4 construction paper?? I think not.) He's like, "it's the symbol of our country" and "it's what we've become" and I'm thinking, "wow. a piece of paper/cloth with a print on it. I'm really impressed. And all this time I've been thinking that the symbol of this country is the people that live here and how we will band together and stand up for what's right. Silly me."

Mother and I went shopping today and I got new clothes. She figured that since I'm starting a job that I can't wear jeans at, that we should do some early school shopping. Fine by me.
